Current Research

Development of a computer-aided diagnosis system for colorectal cancer based on navigation diagnosis
We have developed a new computer-aided diagnosis system for the colon that displays virtual unfolded (VU), virtual endoscopic, and multi-planer reconstruction views of the colon. All views are completely synchronized. VU views enable physicians to observe a large area of the colonic wall at a glance. Additionally, our system provides functions to aid polyp diagnosis. In the previous VU view generation method, spurious holes occur on VU views near the sharp bending areas of the colon because planes perpendicular to the central path, on which rays of ray casting are cast, intersect near such areas. We have also developed a reduction method of plane intersection that allocates springs between the planes. Then the plane directions are modified based on spring forces to reduce the intersections of planes. Rays of ray casting are cast along the modified planes. In our experiment, spurious holes were significantly reduced by intersection reduction.
